Wanted to mention to you mike Should look up uarujoey on YouTube I think he did a similar type of build as yours in reference to wood base with glass perimeter I'll see if I can link you the video
Here you go, I think this is the one
I did watch that series that`s how I found out about the Pond Shield thanks for posting the video link it is great info for any one building there own monster tank and just fun to watch even if you have no plans for a big build.
The glass is coming from used tanks the 2 long 72" pieces are from a 135 gallon tank all ready purchased for $65.00 the 48" side glass is coming from a 90 gallon still looking because I `am cheap and waiting for .50 cents a gallon.
One more big piece of the build has been acquired from good old kijiji on Sunday had to go over the budget and pay .55 cents a gallon I had picked up a 90g earlier for $40.00 but after cleaning it up and getting it in good lighting it was loaded with scratches so it will just be a grow out tank.
What I was looking for was an old 90g from 70-80`s as they were all 1/2" glass with no support bar even the 2 135g`s being 6 feet long have no support bars them old Hagen tanks were built for strength and had no issues with water pressure blowing out seams.
Now days they are built with the thinness glass possible for cost and weight savings the thicker the glass the more glue between the panes and that is where the tank gets it strength from.
At first they just made them thinner and had seam failures and then started with the center brace with any tank 36" and 16"and up tall.
Now that the weather is coming around its time to get building the room for all the tanks I have been buying up for the last 18 months I did a quick count the other day and it was at 97 stacked upside down.
So with the ones I have with water and fish it should be 109 I don`t know if that is still in the MTS definition or I`am just the only one thats not right and seen nothing wrong.
This pic is for Jay see how nice a 90g fits in the back seat of a compact car
Total so far is $215.00
