It was a good day. Alot of Windsor guys where there. JHG was a walking Zombie, as he worked until midnight and then stayed up to get things ready for the auction. GTOmike, made out better going for a coffee, then he did at the auction. He found some aquarium stuff on the curb (go figure). Jred was late (of course). I won the 50/50(of course).
Not alot of Cichilids. My pair of Kenyi amazed me as they coloured up better in the bag than they ever did in my tank, so get a better price. It was a planted Tank persons paradise though. I am sure they guys will add to it.
haha it was definitely not a cichlid person auction for sure, kind of glad I moseyed down as there wasn't much I was looking for there. I went home fishless, the couple bags I was interested in went for too much for the trouble of finding them a new tank. Picked up some Java Fern and a book along with a 5 gal and some sponge filters for @agirard2003. Overall it was a pretty good day, just not a lot of action for myself.
I also came home fish less for the first time but I left behind a good 45 fish that went too new homes and spent half my returns on 5 lbs of fish food from Angelfins.
We sure did a lot of laughing mostly at Curtis after he won the 50/50
The Tim Horton`s trip was worth the 2 hour drive alone at the same time of the auction each year the town of Dorchester has it`s spring clean up and they take any at the curb last year I was tempted to take a drive around for a look.
So I was thinking as I had 45 minutes to kill before the auction started I should go get a Timmie`s and take in the town`s overload of curb treasurers.
The first road I turned down maybe the 6th house and there it was half a fish room at the curb boxes of supplies lots brand new never used and a good looking Fluval 403 right in the middle of a long row of boxes.
I filled the back seat of the car with a good 6 large boxes and I mean filled I haven`t even unloaded it yet to see how much I really have pic`s later I was hoping to find a tank or 2 at best.
A few more streets I did find a 5 gallon with a reptile lid good thing I had no passengers as the tank had to go on the passengers side floor my cooler and fish food road back on the seat I looked like I was coming home from collage going down the 401 next year I might bring the truck and trailer.
Jay should post by Tuesday or whenever he comes out of his coma
Well, I was very tempted to call in a "sick day" this morning as I wasn't feeling the love and was very tired. After waking up early on Saturday morning, working until midnight and then catching/bagging fish and packing it was 4am. About to crash for just 1 hour of sleep only to find my daughter in my bed -- I later learned my wife wasn't well and she was keeping her company. Oh well... might was well just stay up as I had to drive to Comber to meet the Kalvus King of Kingsville aka KKK aka cds.
Driving to Comber through some back roads off of Lauzon some little creature jumped out in the middle of the unlit road, stared at me while a ghoulish grin and yellowish eyes and pranced back into the darkness. Okay, now I'm freaking out! That thing looked like a creature off of Lord of the Rings. Was I hallucinating due to lack of sleep or did I just see some small demonic creature cross my path. I don't know but that thing still looked frightening even with its diminutive size.
After meeting up with KKK we hit London and take in the auction. I have to say that of all the London auctions I've been to, this was the most "uneventful". Barely any Rift Lake cichlids or South/Central American cichlids. I did see a few bags of beautiful Severum which I almost snagged as they're lovely fish. Not much else to talk about in terms of fish for me. I did manage to pick up a few bags of Pseudotropheus demasoni of which one died on the way back to Windsor. I've always liked demasoni though they have a reputation for being a bit nasty. Best to keep them in a large group so I'm hoping to add to my 5. jred you should be in contact with the demasoni breeder you know of. I also picked up a pair of adult Pseudotropheus saulosi. Not sure if they are a breeding pair, but it kind of looks that way. Usually in a group of saulosi only one will colour as a male and the sub-dominant males will remain yellow in an effort to disguise themselves as females. That said, with a clear male in the bag I think it safe to say the two were a pair and likely a breeding pair. The saulosi were spawning last night before I collapsed so it was a good sign.
I almost made a huge mistake by putting the fish in established tanks... I was basically asleep when I was doing this so forgive me. Both species are in quarantine tanks and so far are doing well.
My apologies to cds as I was in and out of consciousness on the drive back to Comber... dead tired. Since Saturday morning I've had just a few hours sleep so tonight it's on!
Even though it was a lack lustre event, fish-wise it was quite hilarious to watch cds purchase and win the 50/50. I deliberately stayed out once he bought his tickets. Smart move!! And of course it's always a great time having laughs with the WCCG crew of cdsjred and gtomike. We'll need to drag more WCCG guys to the fall auction like fin @agirard2003 and others.
Trying to see how I can attend the CAOAC auction. gtomike can I tag along with you? I'll be your waterboy! LOL.
