A big thanks goes out to Mike Newton gtomike for his informative and practical talk on lighting options for your fish tank and fish room. Mike is one of the most down-to-earth hobbyists I know and has a heart for helping new and senior hobbyists make the hobby that we all love affordable and practical.
Mike demonstrated how LED lighting can save hundreds of wattage usage in electricity and hundreds more in dollars from your pocketbooks. He also outlined the level of brightness gain in comparison between LED, CFL, fluorescent and condescent bulbs while bringing your costs down. It was very enlightening to see and learn that there are gains to be made in LED light straps by just reducing the overkill in cheap power supplies by reducing to a lower amp supply while not reducing the effectiveness of the LED strip. I for one will be upgrading all of my LED light strip power supplies for the low cost of $6/power supply. That will save me hundreds of dollars after I calculate the wattage saved per strip per year.
Thanks again Mike for imparting your knowledge and love for the hobby last night.
NOTE: The Ontario government started a rebate program today so I took the info learned during Mike's talk and purchased bulbs for my garage and the rest of my house. Looking forward to the savings.
