Wow! What a great time we had at the OCA Extravaganza 2016. I didn't pick up much fish but rather focussed on hanging out, having some laughs, listening and interacting with speakers and getting to know some of my fish friends better.
I did make a few pre-event purchases to enhance the fishroom including an upgrade to some LED fixtures, huge poret foam sponge filters, caves for fry to hide out and grow as well as a few other accessories for the fishroom.
Trust and believe me when I say that there was a little something for everyone at the Extravaganza. I'm moving two wall tanks so I'll have room to work on the walls this weekend so I really didn't buy much livestock at all. It was tempting but I'm trying to be smarter and less impulsive until I finish a few changes in the fishroom. I've definitely noticed a huge positive change in my basement temperature since the removal of the original windows and installation of the new "shiny" ones. Once this part of the house has been insulated I believe it will be a "bye bye" heaters sendoff party and hello lower electricity... or as they say in Ontario, hydro bill.
We posted a few photos and videos of our tine in Ohio on our Facebook group but I'm also adding them here. Please take a look, like, comment and have a laugh. Mike was soooooo close to having a new bride for our MCA buddy Josh Cunningham - next time brother.
I'll end with even better news! In just 8 months the Michigan Cichlid Association is hosting the 2017 American Cichlid Association annual event in Novi, MI. I expect to see many of you camping out in Novi or at least coming over during the day and nights to participate in the events. Gonna be a blast! Please contact Josh, Jon Keeler or Blair Hen Ze for further information.
Mike and I with a few of the lads and one ladette...
Ed and Peter Lin (Ottawa Valley Aquarium Society). Great guys who we've met up with for the second year.
We were feeling lucky and found this bride who had just entered the hotel. What happens in Ohio stays in Ohio... nuff said.
Dr. Ad Konings (Cichlid Press) and Dr. Adrian Indermaur (University of Basel). Both gentlemen gave excellent presentations during the event. Adrian hails from Basel, my wife's family's hometown in Switzerland.
Ray "Kingfish" Lucas sporting a WCCG shirt! I promised Ray a shirt at CAOAC.
Hanging out with another great guy, Central American cichlid enthusiast and guest speaker this year, Rusty Wessel.
Ray started making the rounds and advertising our club. Here he is with Ad.
The photogenic Ray with catfish guru Dale Ernest, owner of Fantastic Fins in Livonia, Michigan.
