With my wife hosting a ladies get-together at our place and the Michigan Cichlid Association hosting their March Monthly Meeting at the same time it was an easy decision to hop across the border with my good pal gtomike to take in the meeting. Since we're now full members of the MCA and with nothing to do this evening we were there to enjoy ourselves, fellowship with the other fish nerds and hopefully find some nice fish at the same time.
MCA President Josh Cunningham made a short presentation regarding his fishroom layout and how he runs water changes, etc. Josh has quite the impressive fishroom and runs a small fish business via his company Cunningham Cichlids LLC. As per usual, Mike and I combined our dollars and bought a bunch of raffle tickets. With cds nowhere to be seen for miles, we felt lucky... I won four items and Mike one for a total of five. They had some decent raffle options with water conditioner, silicone air tubing, pleco caves, Kensfish food, etc. Our table cleaned up with two others nabbing a bunch of items and a new tank. With Mike's lucky streak and my Irish ancestry I'm thinking we need to take this act on the road.
We also picked up some fish which shall remain unnamed until they reach adult size. Let's just say that I have re-entered the Victorian cichlid keeping of my past. LOL. What I found a nice touch to the MCA meeting is that you can relax, order a meal, have a beer (if that's your thing) and socialize while all at a fish club meeting. How cool is that?!
I'm in the process of getting the WCCG inaugural meeting finalized so we can do likewise. Fun times ahead!
Jay forgot to mention that I bought the raffle tickets I waited for them to open a fresh roll of tickets and got the first strip thinking that it might pay off better seeing that I won 3 times at the last auction buying the first strip off a new roll.
The only bad luck was when I had to choose which half of the tickets to keep and gave Jay the winning half funny thing when I got my ticket pulled I pulled another one of Jays nice to see him win on 4 tickets in the last 6 months I have been on fire in raffles.
Great atmosphere at the meeting talking about fish and related things BAP auction had a good 20 bags of fish going for under a buck a fish for several bags I think I paid the 2nd highest for my bag of 6 Double Dark Black Veil Angels.
I think I will do my best to make it to all the future meetings and already looking forward to the fish room tour they have planed for in the summer.
